There's a new baby giraffe at the Philadelphia Zoo!

Abigail is the name of the new baby giraffe at the Philadelphia Zoo!  The Philadelphia Zoo welcomed Abigail, a female giraffe calf, to the Zoo family. She was born on July 17th, and she is the first giraffe calf born at the Philadelphia Zoo in 13 years. Her parents are Gus and Stella. The calf weighed approximately 120 pounds and was about 5 feet 4 inches tall at birth.  Click on this link to see more photos and find out the best times to go to visit Abigail and her family!

Briar Bush Nature Center

Briar Bush Nature Center is a great local gem that has really expanded it's offerings to the community.  They offer an entire children's series, family prgrams and adult programs.  You can check out their programs at their Autumnfest!, taking place on Sunday, October 3rd, from 10-1 pm.  The program is free and will feature hikes, live animal shows, nature crafts and a bird seed sale.

First 3rd Grade Environmental Studies Class

Environmental Studies is a great way for 3rd grade students to explore the world around them.  The program combines art and science to provide a rich, multi-dimensional experience.  For our first class, the students built upon an art lesson to do a campus observational drawing that incorporated camouflage and other animal coloration adaptations.  It was a beautiful way to spend the afternoon yesterday!
